The vario MACRO CN is a macro analyzer designed for the fast and safe determination of N protein in plant material, food and feed, as an environmentally-friendly alternative to the classical Kjeldahl method. It can also be used for the analysis of CN in applications such as agricultural research, and represents a cost-effective alternative to the vario MAX CN.

vario MACRO cube CHNS
The world’s first macro analyzer for the simultaneous determination of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and sulfur from a single sample, also offering oxygen and chlorine analysis capabilities. It can be used to assess fossil fuels, soil, agricultural products or environmental samples, and is also suitable for micro samples weighing a few milligrams.

Offers pyrolytic oxygen determination at 1,150 °C and quantification of the formed CO with TCD or IR technology.

High-temperature combustion unit
Quantitative sample digestion at up to 1,200 °C, or 1,800 °C at the point of combustion when tinfoil is used, with a ten-year furnace warranty. This is the prerequisite for 100% recovery, even when dealing with samples that are difficult to combust - jet injection of oxygen directly to the sample leads to the highest oxygen concentrations at the point of combustion, as well as low gas consumption.
Largest weighing range
Spanning from micro (<1 mg) to macro (800 mg soil) sample weight, depending on requirements, and up to 20 mg of organic matter.
Largest dynamic range of element concentrations and element ratio
Up to 40 mg C abs, or 15 mg N abs, from ppm to 100%.
Steel combustion tubes
Robust steel tubes are used in the combustion and post-combustion furnace in CN and CHN modes, ensuring a long lifespan.
Purge and trap chromatography
Separation of gaseous components on up to three specific columns for perfect separation without overlap, and automatic optimization of the analysis time.

PC-based instrumentation control
Full digitalization of the instrument allows for remote operation from a standard PC and perfect results, even when dealing with unknown or heavily variable sample matrices. The integrated standard sample feeder accommodates 60 samples - upgradeable to 120 - with 21 CFR part 11 functionality also available.

The vario MACRO cube requires no expensive special catalysts, facilitating easy ash removal from the combustion tube and offering long-lasting components to ensure a low cost of ownership.

Easy installation requirements
The vario MACRO cube takes up just 48 x 55 cm of benchtop space and operates using a single power supply (230, 110 or 100 V) and two gases, providing lengthy periods of maintenance-free operation.
The elemental analyzer forms a system with an electronic microbalance, which is offered alongside analytical balances from the leading manufacturers with our instruments.
Alternative carousels are available for larger sample numbers, with up to 120 positions and a reduced volume.
Oxygen upgrade kit
For upgrading the basic unit to facilitate oxygen determination with a pyrolysis temperature of up to 1,150 °C. This enables conversion of the bound oxygen to CO, and detection with the built-in TCD, or alternatively with IR technology.
Chlorine upgrade kit
For upgrading the basic instrument for the determination of chlorine. The sample can be combusted at 1,150 °C, with electrochemical sensors used to detect the formed HCl.

vario Liquid Sampler (VLS)
The VLS automated sample feeder is used for liquid injections directly into the combustion chamber.

Our consumables kits contain all the necessary parts and chemicals for approximately 4,000 analyses, including chemicals, combustion/reduction tubes and instrument-specific wear parts. We also offer a kit with smaller wear parts, including some of the most essential O-rings and fuses used by laboratories. We do not compromise on the quality of components or chemicals in order to guarantee the longevity of our instruments.
